June Holiday Outing to Far East Organization Children's Garden
Written by: Danna Zil Ko
Date: June 2025

As part of Appleland Montessori’s June Holiday Program, the children from both the childcare and student care classes embarked on their first exciting outing—to the Far East Organization Children’s Garden.

The classes:

Upon arrival, some classes who reached earlier had the opportunity to explore the scenic surroundings and capture a few group photos. The children then gathered at the amphitheatre near the water play area, where Teacher June conducted a safety briefing to ensure everyone understood the rules and guidelines for a safe and enjoyable experience.

The water play area featured two distinct zones: the Toddler Play Zone and the Waterplay Zone. The Waterplay Zone served as an interactive centrepiece, offering a dynamic and sensory-rich experience. Children gleefully waited beneath the bucket splash, anticipating the water cascading down, while others explored the floor jets by standing, sitting, or using their hands to feel the varying splashes. Some were intrigued by the way water flowed through the drains, using leaves to observe how they traveled along with the current. Meanwhile, the Toddler Zone provided a calmer environment with water tunnels and playful fish sculptures, allowing younger children to enjoy the water at their own pace.

Due to the cool weather from the morning rain some children started to feel cold and were guided to change into dry clothes. Afterwards, they were served lunch and snacks while waiting for their peers to finish showering and changing. The teachers worked diligently throughout—ensuring all children were safe, clean, and well-fed.

Once everyone was ready, the group boarded the buses and returned to school, where the children rested and soon drifted off into well-deserved naps—tired but happy after a day full of fun

Water play experiences like these provide children with more than just fun—they offer valuable opportunities for:

• Bonding with peers in an engaging environment

• Hands-on learning through sensory exploration and water-based experimentation

• Building independence and self-reliance, such as changing clothes and managing belongings

• Developing spatial and environmental awareness, like observing how water flows and interacts with different surfaces

• Most importantly, they create joyful memories that children will carry with them for a long time

It was a delightful and enriching experience for all—one filled with laughter, and learning. We look forward to more adventures together!
