[July] Little Acts of Kindness - Learning about the Rough Sleepers

Caring for our Community

For the month of July, the children discussed about the aftermath of the pandemic during their current affairs lesson (people losing their jobs, shops closing down and restriction of travelling abroad). In particular, they learnt about the rough sleepers.

Phase 1: Articles and Videos about Rough Sleepers

The teacher read an article about the rough sleepers and the children discussed on the topic. They were also shown a video about an organisation (New Hope) helping them out.

Phase 2: Rough Sleeper Stimulation

Learning more in depth to the environment the rough sleepers had to live in, the children had a stimulation. The stimulation involved the children rolling around in cardboard, sleeping in the “rain”, sleeping in a noisy environment and sleeping whilst protecting their own belonging. The K1s also took a step further and had to sit on a cardboard for a short period during their lesson (around 15minutes).

Phase 3: Penning down their thoughts

From what they have gathered, the children were encouraged to pen down what they have learn or how they would like to help the rough sleepers.

What have I learn?

How can I help?
