Intergenerational project: Let's build a garden Pt 2

During the harvesting period, the children brought back the vegetables home for consumption. Together with their grandparents, the children cook dishes using the ingredients in our garden. The children enjoyed the quality bonding time and of course, dishes cooked by grandparents are always yummy and nutritious!

We had our project closure on the 12th September 2020, Saturday, where we invited the grandparents to have a terrarium workshop outdoor at our very own garden. We were grateful for the nice weather and grandparents’ active participation. This workshop was conducted by our own centre’s grandparent and it aims to not only for bonding session but also to inculcate nature appreciation as well as using upcycle material to create something beautiful and practical. The event, was held in batches of not more than 10 people in each batch and, materials carefully sanitized after each session.

Our biggest challenge was, of course non other than the strict measures and restrictions throughout this pandemic. However, this has given us the additional drive to find other ways to overcome the situation. We engaged families through ZOOM sessions, HBLs, take home kit and many other means just to keep track with the project and making it a successful one. We will continue to work towards our next harvest with the families and our bigger dream would be to partner with Nparks at a larger scale and hopefully follow through our collaboration with the elderlies from Woodlands Home after the Covid-19 sitution.
