The SSDB project, titled Give With Heart, is designed to foster the spirit of giving among young children. The initiative seeks to nurture core values such as care for others, kindness, and compassion within the children, helping them develop empathy and a sense of social responsibility from an early age.
With the active assistance of parents, children are encouraged to participate in preparing a special gift for the elderly at St Luke Elder Care Centre. This process involves each child assembling a shoe box, decorating it creatively, and filling it with thoughtful goodies. Parents play a supportive role, guiding their children as they select and arrange the items to be included in the box.
In addition to the goodie boxes, children are also prompted to create a card to accompany their gift. The card provides an opportunity for each child to express their heartfelt best wishes to the elderly recipients, adding a personal and meaningful touch to their act of giving.
Children’s active involvement in preparing both the goodie boxes and the cards is highly encouraged. By taking part in these hands-on activities, children not only contribute to the happiness of others but also internalise the values of kindness and compassion, making the project a meaningful learning experience.
