From Hearts to Hands: A Hari Raya Celebration of Dance and Craft

As part of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) initiative, the children participated in a meaningful Hari Raya celebration with the elderly, promoting intergenerational bonding, cultural appreciation, and active community engagement.

Dressed neatly in their school uniforms, the children proudly represented their centre as they performed a traditional Malay Hari Raya dance. Their cheerful expressions and coordinated movements brought joy and warmth to the elderly audience, many of whom were visibly moved by the children’s sincere efforts. The celebration continued with a hands-on craft session, where the children and seniors worked together to create simple Hari Raya-themed decorations such as ketupat and festive cards. Seated side by side, the children listened attentively to the elders’ stories and received gentle guidance during the activity, fostering meaningful conversations and heartfelt connections.

This experience not only deepened the children’s understanding of cultural traditions but also instilled important values such as empathy, respect, and kindness. Through this interaction, they learned that small gestures—like sharing time and creativity—can make a big difference in the lives of others. Moving forward, we hope to continue planning similar initiatives that encourage compassion, celebrate diversity, and nurture a strong sense of social responsibility in our young learners.
