EARTH DAY is celebrated worldwide with a beautiful message –

“Our continuing efforts in our everyday lives will make this beautiful planet thrive.”

We celebrated Earth Day with great enthusiasm and fervour in school. This celebration raised awareness about the importance of preserving our planet and encouraged these young children to take action to protect the environment.

Importance of teaching children about Earth Day in school.

Teaching children about Earth Day instills a lasting desire and passion for ensuring the planet is clean and safe. These young children are at an age where they’re eager to learn and absorb new information.

This awareness encourages them to appreciate the natural world and understand the impact of their actions. By fostering environmental stewardship, children learn to make more sustainable choices and develop a lifelong commitment to caring for the planet. We also do lessons on why we should protect nature, how we can protect nature, why we should save energy, how we can reduce energy, the 3Rs (reduce/reuse/recycle), and identifying items that can be recycled.

Our recycling corner is in the school foyer.

Earth Day is not just a day for learning, but also a day for taking action. By teaching these young children about the importance of Earth Day, they can feel empowered to make a positive impact on the environment. This can include participating in community clean-up events, reducing their waste and energy consumption, or implementing sustainable practices at home.

Our morning celebration began with a special morning assembly in which teachers spoke about the significance of Earth Day and the need to conserve our natural resources.

These children were also presented with skits, poems, and songs to highlight the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living, especially in the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and Rethink!

After the assembly, each classes were dispersed back to classes before they were divided to the different sections’ activities. We had fun with the Earth materials sorting game, where the children would pick up the materials that they had brought from home and put them in the correct designated recycling baskets.

In addition to these activities, we had a mini-exhibition to showcase how the various materials, such as papers, glass, and plastics, were recycled. This has inspired these young children to take up the cause of environmental conservation seriously.
