Collaboration With The Food Bank Singapore

Besides discussing about how food waste is harmful to our environment with the children, the teachers also shared videos about world hunger. This started a discussion on how we can help reduce food wastage and also help the less fortunate in Singapore.

In collaboration with The Food Bank Singapore, the school held a food drive and shared with the children what the organization is about. The act of donating food actually serves two purposes for bettering communities, though one is less obvious than the other. Besides the immediate benefits to the members of our communities, our planet greatly benefits from such food drives too. That is, with lesser unspoiled food being thrown away, lesser unspoiled food will be sent to a landfill where it ultimately goes to waste.

Children from all levels were encouraged to share this knowledge with their family members to involve them in donating food for the less fortunate. After collecting all the food donations, the ChildFirst @ Tampines K1 children helped to sort the donations into different categories (i.e., staple food, canned food, beverages, snacks, etc.,) and packed them into carton boxes. The sorting and packing process was hastened as the children demonstrated excellent team work when they communicated and worked together with their peers. The food items were then delivered to The Food Bank Singapore where they will be distributed to the less fortunate in Singapore.

We sincerely thank our supportive parents for their generous and kind food donations. We are also extremely proud of each and every child that helped out during the sorting and packing process! ❤️
