In our SSDB initiative, “Little Green Heroes: Caring for Earth with Our Hands and Heart”, we aim to instil in our young learners the importance of environmental stewardship and responsibility towards our environment through fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate activities.
This project was thoughtfully designed to help children connect with nature and understand the importance of protecting our environment. Through hands-on experiences, the children not only learn that they have a part to care for the Earth, but also build essential life skills such as teamwork, empathy, and responsibility.
Nursery Green Heroes- Caring for plants
The children began their journey by learning how to care for plants. They were introduced to different types of plants and learned about what plants need to grow – sunlight, water, air, and love. Each child took part in nurturing them through daily watering and observation. This simple act taught them patience and the importance of looking after living things.
K1 Green Heroes- Cleaning Up the Neighbourhood
To deepen their sense of responsibility, the children took part in a neighbourhood clean-up. Equipped with gloves, they collected litter from nearby walkways. Through this activity, they learned how litter harms the environment and how their actions, even small ones, can help make their community a cleaner and safer place. It was heartwarming to see the children feel proud of their efforts, often reminding one another, “Let’s not throw rubbish on the ground!”
K2 Green Heroes – Discovering the Greenhouse
A highlight of the project was exploring how greenhouses work. The children built a simple greenhouse setup where they observed how it provides a safe space for plants to grow. They learned that greenhouses help reduce the effects of climate change by allowing food to be grown more sustainably and with less waste. This sparked curiosity about how technology can support nature and protect our planet. By combining knowledge, action, and compassion, this project empowers children to become little eco-heroes — taking small yet impactful steps to care for the Earth with both their hands and hearts.
