Preparing for our next event to visit Narayana Mission Home

Event 2 (Part 1)

Since our Event 2 is based on our plan to visit the elderly, we approached Sree Narayana Mission home to give us an opportunity to visit the elderly residents of their home. Considering the convenience of both parties, we have finalised the visit. It will be on July 7 2017 between 9.30 am to 11.00 am. We also double checked with them about the appropriate donation items that could be given to the elderly. They suggested that packet biscuits, packet cake rolls, face towels & packet tissue and wet tissue would be most appropriate for the elderly for their daily use.

When we discussed with the children about this planned visit and explained to them about the kind of elderly residents we can expect to see there, they suggested that they can grow some flower seeds in plastic bottles to give to the elderly. We planned to grow the flower seeds during the one week holiday programme, so we contacted an N park specialist to get their advise on which are the flower seeds that can germinate within a week. According to her advise, K2 children grow flower seeds and water the plants during the one week holiday programme. during the rest of the June holiday, our parent volunteers and the cleaner aunty helped us to take care of the plants by watering them daily.

They also said that they could do some performances to entertain the elderly. Most of our children are Indians hence they were eager to show their culture through their traditional costumes from the different states of India through their fancy dress performance. When they came to know that most of the residents are Chinese, they were excited to sing a few Mandarin songs which they learnt from their Chinese teacher. We divided the children into 4 different groups; one group will be performing, the second group will distribute the donation items, the third group will show-case their fancy dress performance and the remaining group will distribute the home-grown flowers.

Next we wrote to the parents explaining the details of the visit and asked for their permission for their kids to participate in this activity. We were very glad to see the positive responses from the parents including their contribution of the items for donation. Even the parents from the K1 level donated various items as per the Home’s requirements.
