Making Soap for the Community

The Soapmaking Story (Part 1) from PCF Sparkletots Preschool @Sembawang Block 789

When we first started on the project, we brainstormed the ideas with the children on how we could contribute to keeping Singapore safe together. The children eventually voted on soap making to tie in with the good handwashing techniques and songs which were taught much earlier in the classroom.

We then asked them, “How can we make our soap special since there are so many soap out there?”. It was incredible to hear their answers. Some suggested making a rainbow soap to reflect PCF colours and some suggested adding a toy as a reward for using the soap. That idea caught on with the rest of the children and they started talking about what other things they can put inside the soap to make it special. In the end, we voted on having a secret message placed in a capsule. That way it will encourage the users to wash their hands with soap regularly so that they could read the secret message. What a brilliant idea!

We finally did the soap in class and the children were happy. They even voted on the essential oil used to enhance the smell of the soap.

Now what can we do with so many secret message soap?

Stay tune as we update you on our next Soapmaking Story (Part 2).
