Garden to Plate ‘I value Food’

Toddler experiences

Toddlers helped to plant green beans and the black beans within the classroom. The laid out the cotton pads in the bottles and placed the seeds. Every day they watered the seeds and observed the growth.

Playgroup Experiences

Children grow and observe their garden in the class. The children were able to identify different plants and name the vegetables. Children water their indoor plants every day and observed using magnifying glass to have a closer look. The educators used different parts of the plants such as pandan leaves, mint leaves adding honey and lemon and made a drink. Children enjoyed the refreshing drink.

Nursery Experiences

Children celebrated their gardening achievements during the harvest time. Our cook helped to make a dish with spring onion and eggs. Children enjoyed spring onion with eggs during lunch. These experiences taught them to persevere in harvesting the vegetables and bring it on to the plate.

K1 Experiences

Children created their indoor garden and shared ideas on taking care of the plants. Children decided to take turns to water and ensured that they will take care their indoor garden. Children are eagerly waiting for their plants to sprout.

K2 Experiences

In K2, children decided to grow the plants indoor such as spring onion, chives, ginger, and green beans. The children observed the growth and recorded in their observation book and discussed their findings with peers. Children observed and explored other class garden too. K2 class have planted bell peppers and were eagerly waiting to harvest.

Our children had wonderful experiences growing their own garden, harvest the vegetables and served on plates. Our educators made all the possibilities into opportunities despite COVID-19
