Collaboration with St. Luke Eldercare in Sengkang

This is the third year we are partnering with St. Luke Eldercare in Sengkang. The elderlies enjoyed the activities that were planned for them and looked forward to them every month. The teachers and children from the centre plan and prepare materials for the elderlies to do at their own pace. It always makes us happy to see the elderlies enjoying themselves.

To start off the year 2022, the kindergarten 2 children performed live via Zoom. They sing and dance to two Chinese New Year songs. At the end of the session, they conveyed their well wishes and thanked the elderlies for watching their performances. Both the elderlies and children enjoyed themselves and hoped that the Safe Management measures (SMM) would be eased soon so the monthly visit could resume.

Throughout the rest of the year, the centre provided instructional documents and materials for the elderlies to be engaged with. The activities are aimed to enhance their motor skills, creative thinking as well as to promote awareness of different celebrations in Singapore.

In the month of April and May, the centre provided materials that are related to the month’s festive celebration. (Earth day and Mother’s Day)

Mother’s Day

As the safe management measures (SMM) eased up, the centre has graciously invited the elderlies to join in our National Day celebration. Everyone dressed up in red and white. The children even had the National Day tattoo pasted on them. We started the celebration by Singing the National Anthem and reciting the pledge. After which, we sang and danced to this year’s and past year’s theme songs. The elderlies and children were given handheld flags or handmade shakers to accompany their singing and dancing.

In the near future, we hope that we could celebrate more special occasions with the elderlies. The experiences of different celebrations are unique, meaningful and memorable not just to the children but to the elderlies as well.
