Celebrating Mother’s Day!

A couple of days prior to the Mother’s Day Celebration at school, the children were full of excitement as they got to create a grand surprise for their mothers. They crafted creative cards which expressed their love and appreciation for their mothers written in both English and Mandarin. It was such a great experience for children to work together with their peers in preparing for a special celebration.

Children waited for their mothers with beaming smiles and invigorating excitement. Teachers welcomed all the mothers with a greeting and thanked them for spending their time to celebrate their special day with their children. As a way to get to know each other, parents were tasked to go around the room and meet as many mothers as they can and get to know them by asking some details like their name, their hobbies and more.

After the parents exchanged pleasantries, the children performed a song “You Are My Sunshine” and danced to a Chinese song with the accompaniments of the keyboard and ukulele played by the teachers. The children were enthusiastic and elated to perform for their mothers and the mothers also enjoyed the performance by the children.

For the next part of the celebration, the mothers and children were engaged in several games. Firstly, they competed with each other in a relay race, “Pass the Ball”, where they balanced a ping pong ball on a plastic spoon and walked to the other end of the room, went around the cone, and walk back to their row to pass the ping pong ball to the next person. Not only did the mothers have to balance a ping pong ball on the plastic spoon, but they had an increased level of difficulty where they had to balance a bean bag on their head as well. The children and mothers enjoyed the game and they cheered each other on!

The next game involved mothers and children competing against each other by seeing who can bounce to the opposite end of the room first using the yellow bouncer. The children and mothers were all excited and spontaneous in participating the games.

The “Stack Attack” game was meant for mothers to participate in. The mothers were very enthusiastic to play, and they did their best while their children cheered for them! It was heartening to see the children cheering for their mothers too.

The last game, “Paper Dance”, was a game involving teamwork between children and their mothers. They had to stand on the piece of the newspaper when the music stops. As the game progressed, the newspapers were folded into halves, they thought of creative ways to ensure that both of them were able to stand on the newspaper. The mothers and children liked the game and it was nice to see them giggling and having fun together.

Every child got the opportunity to give their cards to their respective mothers while the teachers helped them seize the moment by taking pictures. The activity was filled with gratefulness as children were able to express their appreciation for their mother’s hardwork, love and patience. It was so enthralling to see mothers and children exchanging words of affection during the celebration.

For the last part of the Mother’s Day Celebration, the mothers and children created an artwork together. They worked together to decorate and construct their flower and flowerpot before and brought it home afterwards. They participated in this activity and shared the materials with one another too. It was heart-warming to see that both mothers and children enjoyed the Mother’s Day Celebration.
