TOUCH Child Care (Hougang & Clementi) — Care for Others: Appreciating our Estate Cleaners

In August, 40 K1 & K2 children from TCC (Hougang) and 43 K1 & K2 children from TCC (Clementi) embarked on a project to care for our estate cleaners by organising a lunch appreciation for them. With the help of Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Town Council and Jurong-Clementi Town Council, we successfully linked up and invited a total of 45 cleaners.

Prior to the event, our K1 children diligently folded towel bears and wrote thank you cards as appreciation gifts that were presented to the cleaners on that day.

Our K2 children were tasked to set up the lunch venue and host our guests for lunch. They were hard at work, ensuring that the place is ready to welcome our guests and make them feel comfortable. With the teachers’ guidance, our children cleaned the plastic chairs, dressed the dining tables with table cloth and flower vases.

Our children awaited the arrival of our guests with great anticipation and were so happy when the estate cleaners streamed in during their lunch break. Warm towels were given to the cleaners for their hard day’s work as they make their way to the dining tables and sat with our children.

Our children and guests bonded over the interactive BINGO game and a sumptous buffet lunch spread.

It was a heartwarming sight seeing our children and guests enjoying each other’s company, and an especially proud moment of seeing our children rise up as great hosts to our special guests.

While the event has ended, our children never fails to greet our cleaners and say a loud “Hello uncle!” or “Hello aunty!” when we see them around our neighbourhood.

Indeed, we are thankful for the warmth and friendship forged that remained. May our children continue to care for the unsung heroes and usually forgotten community helpers around us!
