Mid-Way Reflection - Why be kind?

Due to the Phase 2 Heightened Alert (P2HA), our project was placed on hold as we were unable to bring the children out of the centre for the project extension. However, that did not stop us from our SSDB discussions.

The Kindergarten 2 children came together to discuss about our project and shared what Start Small Dream Big means to them.

They could vividly recall how Singaporeans from all walks of life came together to thank and appreciate our healthcare workers in 2020 following the outbreak of Covid-19. Some of the children even brought up our SSDB project from last year where we collected food and donated them to the lower income families around our neighbourhood.

The teacher then asked, “Why should we take care of our environment?”. The children’s responses were extremely heartwarming to hear.

  • “If we don’t, then the old uncles and aunties that live here will accidentally fall down” - Adira

  • “If not our school will be so smelly because the rubbish bin is dirty” - Dex

  • “The janitor is so tired he have to clean so many blocks. We can help him.” - Raelynn

Finally, we ended our discussions with the children sharing ideas on the many different ways we can play a part to give back to our community. Hopefully these discussions will remain etched in the children’s mind for a long time to come :)
