Frontliners, essential workers, our heroes fighting through!

No one would have expected that year 2020 would turn out to be a rather unforgettable historical year in the making, with a disease pandemic spreading worldwide, affecting Singapore as well. In fighting against COVID-19, healthcare workers have been sacrificing and taking risks every other day to take care and safe the lives of people infected with the virus. Along with the healthcare workers in the fight against the virus are many unsung heroes, the essential workers, who have stayed on in their line of work and carrying out their respective duties to keep the people in Singapore safe, especially, during the days of circuit breaker.

Children feeling excited at the launch party and looking forward to what they can do to give back to the society.

Through a session of picture talk, children saw the imprints of masks left on faces of the healthcare workers after a long day of work. Children also learnt about the various essential workers who have been at work to continuing serving people in Singapore one way or another during circuit breaker.

“Wow! There’s so many of them!” was the comment made by children when they were shown images of essential workers one after another.

There was so much to say to all the healthcare and essential workers. We decided to write a song about how COVID-19 have impacted Singapore and what can we do to brave through the storm together. Hence, the song titled ‘Heroes Fighting Through’ was written and sung to the tune of ‘One People One Nation One Singapore’.

Children learning the words to the song and familiarising with singing in tune and to the beat. They also had to learn the actions to the song.

Children decided that they want to write and draw thank you cards to express their own thoughts and appreciation to the heroes in their heart.

Differentiated choices were provided to ensure that children create with comfort and confidence.Templates of healthcare and essential workers as well as plain pieces of lined writing paper were provided for children to colour, draw and pen down their heartfelt words to their heroes.

Thank you messages written to food hawkers, cashier aunties/uncles, doctors, grabfood (deliverers), cleaners and more, for their dedication towards their work and sacrifices made for the sake of everyone else in Singapore.

Children’s singing was recorded, images of their words of appreciation towards the healthcare and essential workers were taken and compiled into a gratitude music video. The video was delivered to healthcare and essential workers in the neighbourhood to motivate them and pass on positivity as they continue on their hard work in keeping everyone in Singapore safe!
