City in a Garden by Little Footprints Preschool (Y388)

As a continuation from last year’s Innovation Guidance Project and SSDB 2018, we decided to persevere and maintain our community garden helped out by out Residents Community. Yishun Clover Green has decided to continue give a a helping hand (and the green thumb) by giving as access to their RC garden for us to work on our project.

The Kindergarten 2 children expand their learning in gardening by experiencing hands-on activity like digging, planting and watering. They managed to make friends with the resident gardeners and attained knowledge and advise as to what kind of plants that would be easy to grow and maintain.

They have not only gained knowledge in gardening but further demonstrate their love for their neighbourhood by extending the outdoor experience by helping to pick up litter and cleaning up after themselves. This has shown through small acts of kindness to clean up their garden and neighbourhood, the children are able to understand the impact and importance of keeping their environment clean.

The children were not disappointed and didnt mind that their plants did not grow successfully but they shared that the learning experience of teamwork and gardening made them enjoy the activity more. They in turn learn that gardening is not easy and perseverance and helping one another in the community can help in their future successes.
