Caring for People with Visual Impairment: All about Braille

The children loved learning about Braille, and felt like it was a “secret code” that they could use to communicate with one another. By providing each child with a copy of the Braille alphabet that was clipped onto their table shields, we started incorporating Braille into our daily activities. In the following photos, the children are spelling their own name in Braille.

We also used Braille during our Jolly Phonics lessons, by spelling words out in Braille. The children “decoded” words on the whiteboard, by identifying the letters in Braille, and practiced writing letters.

We also played a game of Braille “Twister”! In this game, the children used the parts of their body to show a specific letter.
