Bukit Panjang Methodist Church Kindergarten SSDB Party Launch 2021- All Things Refigured

This year, the K2 (Wisdom) children, teachers and Principal of Bukit Panjang Methodist Church Kindergarten embarked on a special journey after a year of hiatus in 2020 as the world grapped with the Covid-19 pandemic. We decided to take part in this year’s SSDB project so that we may continue to inculcate the values of reducing wastes. We chose the theme, “All Things Refigured” because we want to inspire the children to recycle and re-figure their recyclable wastes as much as possible.

The school decided to launch the SSDB project on the 22nd April, 2021 so that it coincides with this year’s Earth Day’s commemoration day. The class teacher invited the Principal, Mrs Loo, to give the children a simple but insightful introduction to what SSDB is all about, as well as why we are embarking on this special journey. We even had an Opening Ceremony whereby the Principal would snip the ribbon into half!

The first order of the day was to get the children to take their turns to sort the recycled materials, which their parents have very kindly contributed, into the various boxes. Mainly, paper and plastic. The children were also given their SSDB hats while sorting out the recycled materials.

After which, the children went on to take a class photo along with the poster which the teachers made. They then presented a song to their parents, which has been recorded and will be posted on the school’s portal as well as the school’s Facebook page for all to enjoy!

Moving on, the launch party is just the beginning of an exciting journey of salvaging our natural resources and the Earth that God has given us. The children have also given their pledge and pasted their handprints in the Pledge Tree which is put up outide their classroom, to remind everyone to play a part in reducing wastes. Throughout the 4 months, the children will be creating daily items such as pencil holders and desk organizers using recycled materials, and thereafter, selling it to their parents via an online virtual auction bidding session. All proceeds made from the sale of the items will go to the beneficiaries of The Children’s Charities Association of Singapore.
